Even More Sketches...

The Hand
(pencil on art paper 11''x14")
All the success and all the failure can only be blamed on one thing...

An Early Texas Cowboy
(felt tip on art paper 11"x14")
From a description written by Elizabeth Bacon Custer;
"...Large felt hat, long hair, tuffed and puffed embroidered shirt,
Mexican saddle with silver studs and embroidery, serape tied behind,
fur blanket pad 'to the cupper's'...large silver pommel, stirrup guards and fringe..."

Prarie Station
(pencil on art paper 11"x14")
A Cheyenne or Arapahoe sitting on the tracks of the old
C.O.W. (Clinton Oklahoma & Western) Railroad in Roger Mills Co. Okla.
My father a steam engineer on the C&OW; said the railroad had orders to pick up
Indians until the 1950's; and take them free of charge to their destination. They would
just sit on the tracks and wait for the train. Hopefully, they would be spotted in time.

Studio Design; Study for Oil Painting

This will give you an idea of how I perform some of my studies in color and design.

This drawing is a pastel on art board using sepia tone colors in place of natural tones;
for example a yellow sky instead of blue...by using yellow, red, brown, black and white
it creates some interesting effects...
I think a great oil painting came of the whole thing...give it a try yourself...
Here is the end result........

The remains of the Dust Bowl near Keys Oklahoma;
